World Veterinary Day 2011
World Veterinary Day Message from President Dr Tjeerd Jorna
Dear colleagues and friends,

I wish you all a successful World Veterinary Day in what is a significant year for the veterinary profession and the World Veterinary Association.

I will participate in the celebration of World Veterinary Day (WVD) in Kenya, the first winner of the WVD Award which was presented jointly by the World Veterinary Association and the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) at the 2008 World Veterinary Congress in Vancouver, Canada.

World Veterinary Day was instigated by the World Veterinary Association (WVA) in 2000 to be celebrated annually on the last Saturday of April.

I support and encourage all members to celebrate World Veterinary Day and apply for the Award. The Award will be presented during the World Veterinary Congress in Cape Town in October 2011.

In 2008 the WVA and the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) agreed on the creation of the World Veterinary Day Award aimed at rewarding the most successful celebration of the veterinary profession by national veterinary associations, alone, or in cooperation with any other selected veterinary body.

The 2011 Award will be presented at the 30th World Veterinary Congress to be held in Cape Town, South Africa on 10 - 14 October 2011. The prize: US$ 1,000 will be donated to the winner.

I invite all of you to prepare your plans to come to the WVC 2011: Caring for animals : healthy communities. Within that theme, will be a major stream on rabies, the subject of World Veterinary Day this year.

Dr. Tjeerd Jorna,
WVA President
